Commentary: The quality of the water allocated also imposes risks that the Parties should consider. First, there is the health risk to the population that uses the water for domestic purposes. Second, if the available water will not meet the standards for certain industrial purposes, there is the risk that economic growth will be impaired. Finally, there is the risk that quality degradation will have a severe impact on the ecology of the basin, resulting in long-term sustainability complications.
